Cross donated to Holy Rosary Shrine in Welland

On September 7, 2017, Bishop Gerard Bergie celebrated Mass at Our Lady of the Shrine in Welland to honour the 100th anniversary of the Fatima Apparitions.

He also blessed a replica cross that was made and donated by Marino Cecchini, a local bricklayer and stone artist, who came to Canada from Italy in 1953. The cross now hangs on the wall behind the altar at the shrine.

The original cross is in the church of San Cristoforo in Casteldimezzo, Italy. Many miracles have been attributed to it and people still continue to pilgrimage to this church to receive healing. A feast day is celebrated annually on Easter Monday.

Thanks Marino Cecchini for the donation of this beautiful cross.
